Amish Poor Man’s Steak

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 cup crushed saltine crackers (or bread crumbs)
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 cup milk
1 egg
Salt and pepper to taste
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (optional for a creamy sauce)
1 cup shredded cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Mix the Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, crushed saltine crackers, chopped onion, milk, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
Form the Loaf:
Shape the mixture into a loaf form and place it in a greased baking dish or loaf pan.
Add Soup (Optional):
If using cream of mushroom soup, you can pour it over the top of the meatloaf, or if you prefer, you can serve it on the side after baking.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). If using cheese, add it during the last 10-15 minutes of baking.
Let it Rest:
Once done, remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
Serve:
Serve warm with sides like mashed potatoes, green beans, or a salad.
Tips:
You can customize the recipe by adding vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or celery for extra flavor and nutrition.
Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days and can also be frozen for later use.
Amish Poor Man’s Steak is a great budget-friendly meal that’s both filling and delicious. Enjoy!
