Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons white granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup chilled butter salted
- 2/3 cup milk
Instructions
Set the oven to 415 degrees and put parchment paper on a baking sheet.
Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt with a sifter in a medium bowl.
Cut the butter into the flour until it looks like coarse crumbs. You can do this with your hands, a pastry blender, or a knife and fork.
Pour in the milk and use a fork to stir the mixture until it comes together.
Take the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it until it is smooth.
Roll out the dough until it is 12 inch thick.
You can use a 3-inch biscuit cutter to cut out the dough, or you can cut it into squares.
With the rest of the dough, make a new ball and roll it out to 12 inch. Do this again and again until all of the dough has been used to make biscuits.
Place biscuit dough on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the biscuits have risen and turned a golden color.
Serve right away or put on the counter or a serving dish until you are ready to serve.
